About the Building
The playhouse was built in 1903 as a church and has been a theatre since 1980. The pews came out, the chancel became the stage, and the balcony stayed exactly where it was. It seats 148, and about thirty of those seats are in that balcony.
There is no lift. The balcony is reached by one staircase and the ground floor is level with the pavement at the north door. Two spaces at the back of the ground floor have no fixed seat and take a wheelchair. Ring the box office and one of them is yours.
The building is old enough that the heating takes an hour to reach the balcony in December. Bring a layer to the Christmas show. Everyone who has been coming a while already does.
